I have to admit, my DVD collection has been feeling a little weak lately. The last few times I've hopped on the bike to go for a ride, I've had a hard time finding something that really captured my interest and kept it throughout the ride.
Today one of my classmates showed my hulu.com. Oh boy... Hulu is a site where you can watch whole movies and old (and somewhat new) television show episodes for nothing. Completely free. Completely legal... on my laptop... any time I want. Every once in a while you have to sit through one 30 second commercial. Big whup.
I now have new media for my training rides.
Anything worth having or doing on the internet is free. Fellow gerbil-wheel riders, you can keep your Netflix subscriptions.... I've got my Hulu...

Week in Review
Well, last week was a pretty good week all around. I got my 2500yd swim under 50' 00" which was a goal from the prior week.
My long ride on Saturday was agonizing... not from a physical standpoint, far from it. Mentally, however, it's not easy to maintain focus, or even interest, when riding indoors for three hours. The last half hour was a conscious battle, tracking every step of the workout set, telling myself over and over again that it was almost done. That aspect, more than anything else, is where the most training is coming in on those days. I watched the end of Transformers, all of the first X-Men movie and about half of X-Men 2 over the course of the ride.
Sunday my long run started off slow and a little tough. The battery died in my footpod so I was out of luck with that and had to resort to other means to track my pace. It didn't help that the hardest part of my Sunday long runs is always the first 10-20 minutes (again, a mental thing) and I had trouble finding my groove but about halfway through my second mile I found it and felt great for the rest of the run.

Weekly Long Ride...
I decided to skip the surreal, post-modern stuff for my long ride this week (I watched Powaqqatsi last week and have Naqoyqatsi waiting in the queue) and watched The Return of the King. the Lord of the Rings movies have to be the only ones I can start as I'm prepping for a ride and still have half an hour to go at the end of a three hour ride. Randal Graves hit the nail right on the head with that movie (for reference, see Clerks II).
It was a good ride though, 3 hours solid, no bathroom breaks and I found out I like Caramel flavored Powerbar gels. I felt pretty good afterwards and quite good today as well. The time and distance put me on pace for a 3:30 HIM bike ride, though I'm starting to wonder if it might be time to up the wattage a little. I'll have to ask Marky V about it.
